Think Hong Kong is just a concrete jungle? Think again. Beyond the skyscrapers and bustling city life lies a stunning natural playground, ready to be explored. With lush country parks, tranquil nature reserves, and a variety of trails, the city has become a paradise for runners and hikers alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Within this vibrant landscape of trail running, the Hong Kong Nepalese Ultra-Trail Running Association (HKNUTRA) has emerged as a distinctive player. stands out as a unique player. Founded by Nepali trail runners, the organisation is committed to fostering both competitive spirit and environmental responsibility. HKNUTRA is an officially recognised non-profit that is making significant strides as trail running continues to gain popularity in Hong Kong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The association has effectively tapped into the growing enthusiasm for the sport, bringing together both experienced athletes and newcomers. At its core, HKNUTRA promotes a distinctive blend of community spirit, resilience, and environmental consciousness. Sustainability is central to its mission, with activities ranging from organising group runs and trail maintenance to hosting community events\u2014all aimed at instilling a deep respect for Hong Kong\u2019s natural landscapes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Members of HKNUTRA often find a profound sense of community and belonging within the association. Regular group runs on Hong Kong\u2019s challenging trails offer opportunities for members to train together, forge friendships and motivate one another to reach new heights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur group runs aren\u2019t just about fitness,\u201d says Dilu Limbu, the association\u2019s vice president and a seasoned competitor. \u201cThey\u2019re about camaraderie and mutual support. Running together, we push each other forward, and that sense of togetherness is what drives us all.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HKNUTRA has quickly gained recognition in Hong Kong\u2019s competitive trail running scene, with its members delivering standout performances in high-profile races. Recently, Dilu Limbu claimed first place in the women\u2019s category of the HK-50 by Action Asia\u2014a 50-km challenge featuring steep ascents and rugged terrain. Her victory not only showcased her talent but also highlighted HKNUTRA\u2019s commitment to pushing boundaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The association\u2019s success continued with the TransLantau by UTMB, where three HKNUTRA members tackled the gruelling 100-mile course on November 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leading by example, HKNUTRA President Bedhraj Limbu completed the race in 20 hours, 32 minutes, and 32 seconds, finishing ninth overall and second in his age group. Rabin Limbu also put forth a strong effort, completing the distance in 21 hours and 48 minutes, securing 14th place overall and second in his age category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dilu took on the same challenge, crossing the finish line in 23 hours, 15 minutes, and 3 seconds, earning fourth place in the women\u2019s category and winning her age group. These remarkable achievements have established HKNUTRA as a significant presence in Hong Kong\u2019s trail-running community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBeing part of HKNUTRA is about more than just running,\u201d explains Bedhraj Limbu. \u201cWe want to give back to the trails that give us so much. It\u2019s our responsibility to leave the trails in better condition than we found them. We\u2019re deeply committed to preserving these natural spaces for future generations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through its conservation initiatives, HKNUTRA not only helps protect the trails but also instils a sense of responsibility and respect among its members. By setting an example for environmental stewardship, HKNUTRA demonstrates that trail running can contribute positively to the environment, encouraging other sports communities to adopt similar values.<\/p>\n\n\n

With a solid foundation in place, HKNUTRA has ambitious plans to expand its reach and grow its community. The association envisions a future where trail running is accessible to everyone and where environmental responsibility is embedded in the sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HKNUTRA is developing initiatives to introduce trail running to more people, particularly the Nepali diaspora, youth, and under-represented groups in Hong Kong, providing them with the opportunity to experience the exhilaration and fulfilment of the outdoors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur hope is that HKNUTRA becomes a space where everyone\u2014regardless of background or experience\u2014feels welcome and inspired to both run and protect the trails,\u201d says Dilu Limbu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As HKNUTRA continues to grow, its influence on Hong Kong\u2019s trail-running scene strengthens. By prioritising both sport and sustainability, the association inspires athletes and promotes an environmentally conscious approach. This commitment is shaping the future of trail running while preserving the landscapes it celebrates.<\/p>\n
