Nepal\u2019s adventure capital, Pokhara, is poised to reach new heights this holiday season with the launch of the country\u2019s first-ever International Balloon Festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Around 30 hot air balloons from Nepal and around the world are expected to grace the skies over Chankhapur, in the city of lakes, during the event scheduled for December 24, 2024, to January 1, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Balloon Nepal is leading the festival with support from both federal and local governments. Joining forces with the sole hot air balloon service provider in Nepal are the Nepal Tourism Board, Pokhara Tourism Council, Hotel Association of Nepal, Nepal Association of Tour and Travel Agents, and the Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The festival aims to elevate Nepal\u2019s global tourism appeal, with extensive preparations already underway across the 3km stretch between Lauruk and Chankhapur, according to the organisers. The estimated budget for the festival is Rs68.23 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Situated just 5km from the bustling lakeside, Chankhapur is a conveniently accessible and picturesque venue. Its serene, expansive environment offers the perfect backdrop for balloon flights, making it an ideal location for the festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The organisers are confident that this vibrant spectacle will not only invigorate tourist activities but also enhance Pokhara’s reputation as a premier adventure destination on the global stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe anticipate the festival will inject new vitality into Pokhara\u2019s tourism industry, which is gradually recovering from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic,\u201d said Bikram Bade, Chairman of Balloon Nepal, during a press conference in Kathmandu on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the course of the week-long event, hot air balloon pilots will conduct flights throughout the day\u2014morning, afternoon, and evening. The festival is expected to feature approximately 500 commercial flights, with around 3,000 people anticipated to enjoy the unique experience of ballooning over Pokhara\u2019s stunning landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n

In addition, around 300 non-commercial flights will be available, giving festival-goers even more opportunities to experience the thrill of soaring through the skies in this unique aerial adventure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In anticipation of large crowds, the organisers said they would designate ample parking space to ensure visitors can enjoy the festival with ease and convenience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adding to the spectacle, a mini balloon show is set to delight crowds, complemented by live performances from renowned national and local artists. The sight of dozens of colourful balloons filling the sky will provide a dramatic and festive visual treat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond the balloon flights, visitors will also have the chance to explore cultural exhibitions showcasing Nepal\u2019s rich traditional heritage alongside international displays, creating a vibrant atmosphere of cross-cultural exchange. Various entertainment and adventure tourism activities will be available throughout the festival, ensuring there\u2019s something for everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Balloon Nepal, which has been operating hot air ballooning services in Pokhara since 2018, made its international appearance at a balloon festival in Thailand earlier this year.<\/p>\n
